What is Iode ?
Iode is an essential element, which several organs in the body have a need for Iodine to function normally. The ocean is a big source of iodine.
Iodine is essential for the metabolism of :
- thyroid
- breasts
- prostate
- gastric mucosa.
Iodine is also a powerful natural detoxifier, immunomodulator and its daily intake is correlated with a decreased risk of breast, prostate, endometrial, ovary, thyroid and stomach cancer.
Iodine deficiency is related to decreased intellectual capacity, fatigue, goiter and infertility. The body needs iodine to make thyroid hormones. These hormones control the body’s metabolism and many other important functions. The body also needs thyroid hormones for proper bone and brain development during pregnancy and infancy.
Approaching in the year 1900, the Iodine / Iodide solution called Lugol’s Solution started to be widely used in an effective and safe way in medical practice, both for the low activity of the Thyroid Gland, as well for its activity above normal, also for avoid goiter and mood swings.
The name Lugol refers to the Doctor Jean Lugol, that was a French physician, graduated MD in 1812 in Paris. He published 4 books in 1829 / 1831. He started using Iodine to treat tuberculosis.
Lugol’s solution is a solution of potassium iodide with iodine in water. Lugol’s iodine has been used to replenish iodine deficiency.
Several studies have demonstrated a relationship between low iodine intake and Fibrocystic Breast Disease (FDB) in women. Several researches have shown convincing evidence linking inadequate iodine intake and breast cancer. Japanese women, who live in Japan, consume an average of 13,8 mg of elemental total iodine daily, and have a low prevalence of breast, ovarian and uterine cancer.
In 1960 a slice of bread in the United States contained 0,15 mg of iodine. It was observed that the risk for breast cancer was 1 in 20. Over the past 2 decades, iodine has been replaced by Bromine in the manufacturing process of bread. Bromine blocks Thyroid function and can interfere with the anti-cancer effect of iodine in the breast. Now the risk of breast cancer has risen to 1 in 8, increasing 15 a year.
Based on demographic studies , the Japanese continent consumes an average of 13,8 mg of iodine per day and is one of the healthiest people on planet Earth. The Lugol’s Solution is a preparation with proven experience for over 150 years. 2 drops contains 12,5 mg of Iodine / Iodide, an amount very close to the average intake of 13,8 mg consumed in Japan.
What foods provide Iodine ?
Iodine —- is found naturally in some foods, and is also added to salt.
- Fish, seaweed, shrimp, and other seafood are rich in iodine.
- Dairy products such as milk, yogurt and cheese contains iodine.
- Fruits and vegetables which contains iodine depends on the soil where they grew.
- Iodized salt, which is available in many countries.
What happens if you don’t get enough Iode ?
People who don’t get enough iodine cannot make sufficient amounts of thyroid hormones. Severe iodine deficiency can permanently harm the fectus in pregnant women, by causing stunted growth, mental retardation, and delayed sexual development. Less severe iodine deficiency can cause lower IQ intelligence in infants and children. Decrease adult’s ability to work and think clearly. Goiter, an enlarged thyroid gland is the first visible sign of iodine deficiency.
