What is Statin drug?
Tens of millions of people in the world are taking cholesterol -lowering drugs – mostly statins. Some “experts” claim that many more millions of people should take them. I am not in favor of statins, and with this article I would like to call attention to the dangers of this drug.
What are the effects of the use of Statins?
HMG-CoA redutase, that is, they act by blocking the enzyme in the liver, the same enzyme that is responsible for the production of cholesterol. The fact that statins cause side effects is well know. There are over 900 studies showing their side effects, ranging from muscle problems to an increased risk of cancer.
For starters, the side effects reported in the studies include :
Muscle problems, polineuropathy ( damage to the nerves of the hands and feet) Rhabdomyolysis (a severe degenerative muscle tissue disease).
Anemia, Acidosis, Sexual disfunction, Immune depression, Cataract.
Disfunction Pancreas or Liver, including a potential increase in liver enzymes, Memory loss.
Muscle problems are the most well-know side effects of statins, but cognitive problems and memory loss are also widely reported. There may also be other problems, ranging from increased blood sugar to tendon problems.
There is evidence that taking statins may even increase the risk for Lou Gehrig’s disease (Amiotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), diabetes and even cancer.
Statins currently available on the market include:
Advicor (lovastatin with niacin)
Abbott Crestor (rosuvastatin)
AstraZeneca Mevacor(lovastatin)
Merck Simcor (niacin/imvastatin)
Abbott Altoprev (lovastatin)
Shionogi Pharma Lescol (pravastatin)
Bristol- Myers Squibb Zocor (simvastatin)
Merck Caduet (atorvastatin with amlodipine (Norvasc) )
Phizer Vytorin (ezetimibe/simvastatin)
Merck/Schering-Plow Statine.
Statins and Diabetes
The correlation to the risk of Diabetes, statins have been shown to increase the risk of diabetes through some different mechanisms. The most important is that they increase insulin resistance, which can be extremely harmful to health. The increase in insulin resistance contributes to chronic inflammation in the body, and this is a distinctive sign of the part of diseases. In fact, the increase in insulin resistance can lead to heart disease, which should be the main reason for taking a cholesterol lowering drug in the first place!
It can also promote belly fat, hypertension, heart attacks, chronic fatigue and thyroid disorders. Diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s and cancer.
When eating a meal that contains starches and sugar, part of the excess sugar goes to the liver, which then stores it as cholesterol and triglycerides. Statins work by preventing the liver from producing cholesterol. As a result, the liver returns sugar to the bloodstream, which increases blood sugar levels. Now, it is important to note that drug-induced diabetes and type 2 diabetes are not necessarily the same thing.
If you take a statin drug and your blood glucose level is high, it is possible that it is hyperglycemia, a side effect of statins. Unfortunately, many doctors at this point incorrectly diagnose “type 2 diabetes” and possibly prescribe another drug. When all one has to do is simple stop the statin, so the blood glucose levels return to normal.
Discovers Statin Drug Study Found Defective
A study know as the Jupiter Study, initially suggested that statins that lower cholesterol could prevent heart-related death in many more people than those with high cholesterol. But 2 years after its publication in 2008, the researchers came out saying that Jupiter’s results are incorrect. This because that they do not support the initially reported benefits. Not only is there not “a noticeable reduction in the complications of coronary artery disease”. But also a more recent report has also questioned the involvement of pharmaceutical companies in such tests.
According to an ABC News 2 report : …”there are significant discrepancies between the significant reductions in non-fatal stroke and heart attacks. Jupiter study reports what has been found in other research”…Jupiter seems partial, “ the researches wrote.
Statins disable numerous biological functions :
Statins also interfere with other biological functions, including a fist step in the mevalonate pathway, which is the primary route for managing steroids in the body. This pathway that are adversely affected by statins include :
All of your Sex hormones, Cortisone, that are involved in maintaining the health of your membranes. Including cholesterol and cholesterol-like vitamin D produced in the skin.
It is not yet clear whether statins actually reduce the level of vitamin D. But they reduce the body’s natural ability to metabolize active vitamin D (1,25-ditydroxycholecalciferol). This is the natural result of the cholesterol -lowering ability of the drug, because cholesterol is needed to produce vitamin D !
Cholesterol is the raw material that your body uses for the conversion of vitamin D after you have exposed your skin to sunlight. It is also well documented that vitamin D improves insulin resistance, so needless to say, when taking a statin drug, you give up the “built-in”health promotion mechanism, which is another clue to how statins can cause diabetes.
99 out of 100 people don’t need statin drugs !!
The fact that these drugs have proliferated so much in the way, is an expressed form of the marketing power of the pharmaceutical industry, of the corruption and greed of the multinationals, because the odds are very high-greater than 100 to 1- that if you take is just for marketing and ignorance, and not because you really need.
The only subgroup that could benefit from these drugs, are those born with a genetic defect called familial hypercholesterolemia, as this makes them resistant to traditional cholesterol normalization measures.
And more importantly, cholesterol is NOT the cause of heart disease !
What is Cholesterol and the danger of taking statins ?
First you have to understand the biological functioning of cholesterol. In fact, there is no “good or bad”cholesterol. Both HDL and LDL cholesterol perform vital functions in the body, which is why it is actually dangerous to lower LDL levels too much. It function is to transport cholesterol to the tissues in order to create cells and repair damaged ones. While HDL will bring it back to the liver and no plaque will form.
Statins work by preventing the formation of cholesterol and reducing the LDL cholesterol, which is considered to be “bad”cholesterol. There is no argument that they can actually lower cholesterol levels. What has not been shown is that statins significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular death. In no way or form, do statins treat the cause of your problem. They are not other toxic…
If your doctor is asking you to check your total cholesterol, then you should know that this test will tell you practically nothing about your heart disease risk. The HDL percentage is a much more powerful indicator for heart disease risk. Here are two ratios you should pay attention to :
Total Cholesterol/HDL Ratio :
Ideally it should be above 24 percent. If less than 10 percent, you have a significantly higher risk of heart disease.
Triglicerides/HDL Ratio : It should be less than 2. I have already seen so many people with total cholesterol levels in addition to 250 who were actually at low risk of heart disease due to their high HDL levels. Then, I also saw many people with cholesterol levels below 200 who had a very high risk of heart disease, based on their low HDL. Our body NEEDS cholesterol. It is important in the production of cell membranes, hormones, vitamin D and bile acids that help digest fat. Cholesterol also helps the brain form memories and is vital for neurological function. There is also clear evidence that having too little cholesterol increases the risk of cancer, memory loss, Parkinson’s disease, hormonal imbalances, stroke, depression, suicide and violent behavior.
How to optimize Cholesterol Levels Naturally :
There is really no reason to take statins and suffer the harmful health effects of these dangerous drugs. The fact is that 75% of cholesterol is produced by the liver, which is affected by insulin levels. So if you optimize your insulin level, you automatically optmize your cholesterol level.
As a result, my main recommendations for safe cholesterol regulation are practically changing your diet and lifestyle :
Optmize your vitamin D levels !
Research by Dr. Stephanie Seneff has shown the extreme importance of adequate sunexposure to normalize cholesterol levels and prevent heart disease. Reduce, with individual nutrition plan, cereals and sugars in the diet. Ideally, also adding a good portion of raw food. Remember the importance of high quality animal-based omega-3 fats, such as krill oil and wild salmon from Alaska, eggs and chicken broth. Other health foods include olive oil, coconut oil, avocados, raw nuts and seeds and organic meats ( according to each metabolic type).
A little daily exercise is always good! So incorporate Peak Fitness exercises, which also optmize the production of human growth hormone (HGH) and Walking. Avoid smoking or drinking alcohol excessively. Sleep a heath sleep. Unlike drugs and statins, which lower cholesterol at the expense of your health, these lifestyle strategies represent a holistic approach to benefit your overall health, which includes a health cardiovascular system.
A healthy diet is the answer to a correct cholesterol levels as well to prevent diabetes type 2 and cardiovascular diseases.
